Why I Refuse To Marry A Career

When I was in grad school, I was told to “marry” a theory and practice it throughout the program. Basically what they were telling me was to pick one counseling theory, out of a giant pool of amazing theories, and be in a committed relationship with it. Heck to the no, buddy! So like theories, I too have failed to “marry” a career. It has been 15 years since I graduated high school and I have changed my career path 5 times, received 2 degrees and 2 state licensure’s. I have always joked that I am a lifelong student, and it wasn’t until I graduated with my master’s degree did I realize this joke was actually my reality.⁣

So, you may be wondering why I am telling you this. I want you to know that it is 100% okay to have no idea what you want to be when you grow up. You do not have to “marry” a career and stick with it because you fear “divorce.” If you have a fire in your soul to go back to school or try something new, go for it! Do not let age stop you! I repeat, do not let your age stop you!

You have one life to live, so make sure you are living your best life. Work a profession that gives you life, instead of one that sucks the life from you. Find a profession that ignites your soul and gives you purpose. My career path may have changed multiple times, but one thing remains consistent, people. I love working with people!⁣

What do you want to be when you grow up? Tell me all about it in the comments. ⁣
