When you wake up, what is the first thing you do? Before you even crawl out of bed, do you find yourself scrolling through social media?
My cellphone is my alarm clock, so naturally my phone is the first thing I go for in the morning. I go from turning off my alarm, to checking recent social media notifications, to scrolling through newsfeeds. All before I get out of bed for work (and keep in mind I am up at 3:45). Some could say this is me avoiding the inevitable (work).
If you are like me, and find yourself laying in bed scrolling newsfeeds, I want to leave you with some food for thought. One of the first things you are seeing in the morning is someone else’s best moments, their highlight reel. After a minute (or 30) of scrolling you have to get up and face the day. As you stare in the mirror and see your reflection, what are you thinking? What does your self-talk sound like? Are you feeling pumped and ready to carpe diem or is your self-esteem in the toilet? What trajectory did scrolling through social media put you on for the day? Are you feeling confident or are you doubting your abilities?
I challenge you to stay off social media for the first hour you are awake. Spend this hour flooding your mind with positive affirmations and self-talk. Brainstorm goals for your day, meditate, or journal. It also never hurts to bust out your best dance moves while blasting Elvis’s Burning Love (not like I do this or anything 🙄).
I would love to hear how you spend your first hour in the comments section below.
