If you follow me on instagram, you might have seen the video (click video if you'd like to watch it) I shared yesterday discussing the neuroscience behind anxiety. In the video I break down how your thoughts (cortex) ignite your amygdala (fight/flight), which then actives your anxiety response. A good way to remember this is, your cortex is the ignition and your amygdala is the engine.
Your thoughts are far more powerful than you give them credit for. A worrisome/irrational thought can quickly send you into a tail spin faster than the blink of an eye.
In an attempt to reduce your anxiety responses, I want you to practice using these coping statements anytime an anxiety provoking thought pops into your mind. By replacing worrisome thoughts, your amygdala will be less likely to activate. Want to decrease your anxiety? Give these statements a whirl.
